Local-first chess club tournament app for Swiss, round robin, and knockout.
RoundChess.online
RoundChess.online is a local-first web app for unofficial club chess tournaments. Organizers run Swiss, round robin, or knockout events on one phone or laptop: pairings, results, standings, and a projector-ready display mode, without accounts or a backend.
Purpose
Give chess clubs a fast way to run club-night tournaments on a single device, with proper formats and tie-breaks, instead of paper sheets or heavy tournament software.
My role
Solo product builder: product design, tournament pairing logic, scoring, bilingual UI (Albanian & Macedonian), PWA packaging, and deployment at roundchess.online.
Key features
- Swiss, round robin, and knockout formats with bye handling for odd player counts
- Swiss pairings that avoid rematches and balance colors across rounds
- Standings with wins/draws/losses plus Buchholz and Sonneborn-Berger tie-breaks
- Round locking, knockout bracket view, and coin-flip / advance rules for drawn elimination games
- Projector display mode, save standings as an image, and installable PWA
- UI in Shqip and Macedonian; tournament data stored in the browser (localStorage)
Design & development
Designed for club-night speed: create tournament → add roster → start → enter results → save round. Built with React, Vite, and TypeScript; pairing and scoring live in dedicated modules (Swiss, round robin, knockout). Typography and a forest/gold palette give it a calm club aesthetic, with vite-plugin-pwa for offline-capable installs.
Outcome
A live product at https://roundchess.online that clubs can open (or install) on game night, run pairings and results locally, and show standings on a big screen.
Customer focus
Chess clubs and informal organizers who need Swiss, round robin, or knockout on one device in Albanian or Macedonian, without cloud setup.
